NBA Finals
The NBA Finals rolls into week two with two more games in Miami, and Game six sunday night in Oklahoma, assuming the Thunder can score a win or two to keep the series going. So far both sides have lived up to our expectations in creating a competitive series, with any luck we'll see it extended to all seven games before it closes out next week.

Futurama
After being cancelled and brought back on the air, Futurama is ready to kick off its seventh season on Comedy Central. The Planet Express crew is up to its usual misadventures, and a quick preview of the premiere episode (embedded after the break) shows Bender playing with his kid, hopefully this turns out better than the last time his mini-me's nearly destroyed the world.

The Newsroom
Aaron Sorkin is back with a new TV show as The Newsroom premieres Sunday night, taking a peek at the behind the scenes lives of employees at a fictional cable news channel. Jeff Daniels is the lead, an anchor forced to contend with a new team after his co-anchor starts a rival program and takes much of the existing staff with him. Hmm, sounds kind of ridiculous if you ask us. Check out a video trailer after the break, although we're pretty sure Sports Night, The West Wing and Studio 60 fans have already circled their calendars.

Some extra stuff about the roleplay; probably no better than filler, since I can't figure what to do with this post, yet.
????Taking the obsessive, private stereotype of investigative journalism and making it into a means to combine characters? That's my cup of tea. Crime-versus-the-law is a popular conflict of the post-WWII era, and hopefully still intriguing. Cracking a few eggs to get the facts, so to speak, involves deep, extensive research; a process which invariably involves people. Take into heart the concept of stereotyped Big Apple, and hand-wave a few shifts in reality: Let the world be a little more dark and edgy than Film Noire makes it out to be; toss in some potential leaps in gasoline-based technology; maybe even throw some fur onto a few characters, for kicks. Drop into the scene as a criminal, a journalist, a member of the NYPD? take charge and put your corporation into a few lucrative deals under the table to grab that extra New Year's bonus. To the eyes of an investigative journalist, all these people are fundamentally the same, regardless of their prestige. If the truth crosses over a character, why not run with it?

US Government Takedown Requests Doubled in the Last Year [Factoid]

In a new Transparency Report issued by Google, the company has analyzed the takedown requests—for everything from search results to YouTube videos—issued to it from around the world. David Yates and Gary Ross Rumored for New Tarzan

Warner Bros. has been actively developing two new, but different, interpretations of Edgar Rice Burroughs? Tarzan story ? with the intent that one??modernized? version of the classic tale will eventually make it into production.

Craig Brewer (Footloose) is writing the script for one of those competing projects (for more, read our interview with him), while the other is being penned by Adam Cozad: a screenwriter whose career is slowly burgeoning, thanks to his work on the impending Jack Ryan reboot ? and, a planned Brad Pitt vehicle titled The Gray Man.

In a Deadline report about Cozad signing on with CAA (hat tip to The Playlist), there?s a tidbit about some of the filmmakers who are considering Cozad?s Tarzan script as their next directorial effort. That list of candidates includes Harry Potter series alum David Yates, The Hunger Games director Gary Ross ? and Susanna White, the director of Nanny McPhee Returns and the acclaimed TV mini-series Bleak House (she?s also helmed episodes of Generation Kill and Boardwalk Empire).

White, as you probably picked up, is the left-field candidate to take on a tentpole production like?Tarzan. Although her resume is quite solid, Warner Bros. may prefer to have a bigger name working behind the camera on a rejuvenating installment in?the?iconic jungle adventure franchise. On the other hand: White?s not only equipped with some verifiable skills (and a more flexible schedule), she also comes with a cheaper price tag. So, she could feasibly land the job, when all is said and done.

Gary Ross, David Yates, and Susanna White are circling 'Tarzan'

Following the release of the final Potter movie, Yates flirted with a handful of ambitious ventures ? like a?Doctor Who?movie?and a film adaptation of Stephen King?s?The Stand?- but the only significant item on his plate right now is?Cicero, which isn?t expected to begin shooting until some (unspecified) date in 2013. Similarly, after Ross passed on?Catching Fire, he began circling?Houdini; however, his involvement with that project is far from a sure thing.

If either Ross or Yates were to land the Tarzan directing job, then there?s a good chance Warner Bros. could abandon Brewer?s project ? in favor of the one with a director experienced in the art of big-budget filmmaking. White and Brewer, however, are on more equal footing, seeing how neither one has really taken on a movie like this before (or helmed a major box office hit). So that (theoretical) showdown could go either way.

Toughbook goes Ivy Bridge with 10-inch magnesium CF-19

One thing we haven't seen too much of from the ongoing Ivy Bridge onslaught, is rugged notebooks. Sure, there was that Durabook from last week, but not much else -- and we all know the big name in indestructible laptops, is Panasonic's Toughbook line. Luckily, for those of you with jobs or hobbies that tend to involve dust storms and precipitous drops, the CF-19 is on the way with a 3.3GHz Core i5 under its 10.1-inch hood. The €2,950 (roughly, $3,727), convertible notebook has an optional touchscreen, 500GB hard drive, SSD options for the drop prone, as well as lone USB 2.0 and 3.0 ports. If you're a truly mobile warrior, there's even an HSPA+ upgrade available for the wireless card. Basically its the Toughbook 19 we've all grown to know and love, but with some nice Intel upgrades on the inside. The updated rugged lappy should start shipping in Europe this July, but we're still waiting on availability info for the US.

$2 billion Mexico resort shelved over feared impacts

MEXICO CITY?? A Spanish developer said it would go back to the drawing board after Mexican President Felipe Calderon on Friday canceled a $2 billion tourist development in Baja California, bowing to opposition by environmentalists that said the plan was a threat to a nearby coral reef.

Planned by Hansa Urbana, the Cabo Cortes project was to have included lots for 15 hotels, golf courses, a large marina and an airstrip on the southeastern tip of Baja.

But the proposed project is only 6 miles from the Cabo Pulmo National Marine Park and its renowned coral reef system.

"The Cabo Cortes project will not be carried out," Calderon said, citing its uncertain environmental impact. He pledged to help investors develop a sustainable new project in its place.

Hansa Urbana said it plans to submit a revised proposal that would strike a balance between economic development and "environmental sustainability." It did not provide a timetable.

Hansa's original proposal envisioned a 10,000-acre development covering a picturesque landscape of white sand beaches edged by mountains and desert about an hour's drive from the Los Cabos International Airport.

The Environment Ministry first approved the project in 2008 and Calderon's announcement caps years of legal battles over permits that were granted and then revoked due to environmental concerns.

The decision by Calderon, who hosts a summit of leaders from the Group of 20 economies in Los Cabos on Monday, was hailed by environmental groups that have campaigned against Cabo Cortes.

"We consider it a great achievement for all the citizens who voted for the conservation of Cabo Pulmo," said Alejandro Olivera of Greenpeace Mexico.

Calderon, a conservative, is in his final year as president and legally barred from seeking re-election. The fate of any new development likely will fall to his successor.
